Akademos’ low cost course materials and highly personalized service to support student academic success
Midway University has selected Akademos as its new online bookstore provider to help students save on their textbooks. The private, liberal arts university was founded in 1847 and offers career-focused degree programs for undergraduate and graduate students. The University, located in Midway, Kentucky, will launch its Akademos bookstore on July 1 in support of its Fall Term 2018.
Seamless integration between Midway University’s student information system and our Course Materials Platform (CMP)TM will allow students to see a personalized listing of the textbooks required for each of their courses, and to order materials for an entire term, rapidly and efficiently.
A wide selection across new, used, rental, and eBook formats will be offered and, when using our proprietary peer-to-peer Marketplace of over 100 million new and used textbooks, students will save an average of 60% off of the list price of their course materials. Additionally, students will have the freedom to use financial aid on all purchases, including significantly discounted marketplace items.
“We’re pleased to be partnering with Akademos to expand the offerings and capabilities of our virtual bookstore,” said Leah Barth Rice, Vice President of Finance, Midway University. “Along with ensuring that our students will have access to a wider selection of high-quality course materials, our partnership with Akademos will also provide them with affordable options and more personalized service.”
The online bookstore will also support the University’s faculty and administrators, who will benefit from an easy-to-use and powerful Adoption & Analytics Portal. This platform offers a step-by-step guide for course material adoptions, recommendations and adoption history, and the ability to compare real-time prices for course materials. The analytics tool will also enable faculty and the University’s leadership to track critical data, including student purchasing and bookstore utilization, in aggregate for the entire institution – and down to the individual class level – that can be easily merged with the institution’s student success database.
“Our full-service Course Materials Platform (CMP)TM provides faculty and administrators with powerful tools for assessing and reducing textbook costs,” said John Squires, CEO, Akademos. “We’re looking forward to working with Midway University to provide more affordable and accessible materials to their students, which will ultimately drive their preparedness and success.”
